During a routine dental check-up at Phuong Thanh Dental Clinic, a 9-year-old child was brought in by their parents for a periodic oral health examination. After a clinical assessment, the dentist identified several issues, including rotated teeth and an anterior crossbite.
After evaluating the development of the child’s teeth and jawbones, the dentist recommended early orthodontic intervention to correct the existing irregularities and support proper dental and jaw development in the coming years.

Many parents believe that orthodontic treatment is only necessary after all baby teeth have been replaced. In reality, however, certain conditions can benefit significantly from early detection and timely intervention, helping to reduce the need for more complex treatments in the future.
During a child’s growth stage, early orthodontic treatment can offer many benefits, such as guiding proper jaw and facial development, creating sufficient space for permanent teeth to erupt correctly, and reducing the risk of crowding or misalignment. Early correction can also improve the bite and support better chewing and speech functions.
In addition, orthodontic intervention at the right time may help minimize the need for tooth extractions or more complicated procedures later in life. A well-aligned smile and balanced bite can also boost a child’s confidence in daily activities and social interactions.
The ideal age for a child’s first orthodontic evaluation is around 6 years old. At this stage, dentists can identify potential issues related to teeth, jaw development, or habits that may affect oral growth. Based on the findings, an appropriate monitoring or treatment plan can be developed for each individual case.
Not every child requires early orthodontic treatment. However, having an orthodontic assessment at an early age provides parents with valuable information and helps them make informed decisions about their child’s oral health care throughout each stage of development.
